Sherburne-Earlville rallies for second straight win

Sherburne-Earlville 5, Herkimer 4 (8 innings)
HERKIMER – Sherburne-Earlville grabbed its second tight victory in as many days coming from behind to defeat Herkimer Tuesday in extra innings.
Abbey Beaver tripled in the seventh inning to score Emma Hodges with the tying run. In the eighth, Miranda Wright clubbed a one-out triple, and she scored the game-winner on Taylor Hallberg's single.
"We had a couple misplays that cost us runs, but we came back, and the girls are finding it within themselves to stay with it and continue to play," said S-E coach Michelle Parker.
Beaver tripled twice in a 3-for-4 night, Hallberg was 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Savannah Irwin along with Crystal Beckwith finished with two hits.

OTEGO – Unatego snapped a 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat visiting Greene Tuesday.
Tori Halaquist doubled in one run and scored on Jenna Bullis' single to give the Spartans a two-run cushion.
Lydia Howard had two hits for Greene, who host Harpursville Thursday.

Chenango Valley 15, Norwich 14
NORWICH – Norwich's best offensive performance of the season went for naught as Chenango Valley rallied to defeat the Purple Tornado Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors erased an 11-7 Norwich lead with seven runs in the top of the fifth. During that frame, NHS committed all four of its errors. Amber Wallach smacked an RBI double, and Chelsea Henige's single and three-base outfield error scored three more runs.
"We had our chances, and it all came down to that one bad inning," said Norwich coach Scott Moore.
Norwich's trio of Shannon Moore, Kassidy Seary, and Hannah Eddy combined for 11 hits and 13 RBI. Moore was 4-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and five runs scored; Seary went 4-for-5 with five RBI; and Eddy was 3-for-5 with four RBI.
Norwich threatened in the seventh scoring two runs to draw within one of CV before committing the final out. Moore had and RBI double, and Eddy drove in her team's final run.
Norwich plays at Oneonta today.

Blaize Kolvik had four hits and an RBI to lead the Storm, and Lauren Lloyd was 2-for-2. Jackie Smith and Skyler Bard added single RBIs for UV to support winning pitcher Tia Peck.

CHERRY VALLEY – G-MU won its fifth game of the season in a five-inning mercy rule contest at Cherry Valley-Springfield Tuesday.
The Raiders drew 16 walks, and combined that with eight CV-S errors and 12 basehits. Elle MacPherson had three hits for G-MU, Courtney Baker lashed a three-run double, while Kelsey Ross, Jenna Bakhuizen, Jocelyn Duncan, and Madison Banks all contributed two RBI apiece.

Chenango Valley 9, Norwich 2
FENTON – Chenango Valley scored five runs in the bottom of the first to avenge an early-season defeat to the Purple Tornado.
Kolby Ross had a long single that drove in one run for CV, but that was the only sharply-struck ball in a six-hit opening inning. "They had very simple, easy basehits that fell in behind the infield and in front of our outfielders," said Norwich coach Rich Turnbull. "The ball wasn't carrying tonight, and we didn't make the adjustment soon enough."
Brian Cox went 3-for-4 to lead the Warriors, and Ross along with Jake Hertzog had two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Chris Trevisani was credited with Norwich's lone RBI. The Purple Tornado play at Oneonta today.

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville caught the error bug, particularly in the second inning, as the Marauders dropped Tuesday's contest to visiting Herkimer.
"There were some really easy plays we should have made and our guys know they should have made," said S-E coach Jay Tackabury. "We gave up that big inning early in the game, and we found ourselves trying to come back. That a tough thing when your team is struggling."
S-E's Brett Baker went 3-for-4 with a two-run single. The Marauders play at Clinton today.

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley erupted for six runs in its opening at-bat to roll past visiting Greene Tuesday.
The Storm's Dakota Kolvik reached on an error, then UV strung together five straight hits. "That (early success) fired the kids up, and we were also very aggressive on the basepaths today," said UV coach Eileen Lawyer.
Brendan Brooker pitched six innings striking out six to pick up the victory. Brooker aided his own pitching effort with four hits and three RBI. Conor Pope finished with two hits and two RBI, and Austin Taylor, Jared White, and Kolvik pounded out two hits apiece.
UV hosts Walton today in the first round of the MAC mini tournament.

OXFORD – Afton snapped a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Oxford Tuesday.
Conor Graven-Briggs' second double of the game scored the go-ahead run, and Vince Caiati delivered insurance with a sacrifice fly. "The difference in the game was that Afton played phenomenal defense, and we made four errors," said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. "Other than that, it was an evenly played game."
Oxford tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Kevin Davis tripled and scored on a balk.
Joe DeVona went the distance for Afton striking out seven and allowing six hits for the win. Briggs was 2-for-4, and Brody Croft poked an RBI double.

SOUTH OTSELIC – Cincinnatus closed with 11 runs over the final two innings to pull away for the 11-run win over Otselic Valley Tuesday.
Connor Stafford picked up the victory on the mound, and he was 2-for-3 with three RBI at the plate.
Connor Smith, Titus Reichard, and Peter Kalin all had two hits for OV, who fell to 1-7 on the season. "We have not quite put everything together," said OV coach Jake Preston. "We have a lot of young players on the field that still have a lot to learn about the game of baseball, but we are making strides.”

G-MU scored three runs itself in the top half of the seventh to move into the lead. Nate O'Hara's single scored Andrew Baker knotting the game at 11-11, Mickenson Clune walked, and an error on Ethan Butts' flyball scored two runs.
Baker had two hits and two RBI, Christian Merlo drove in two runs, and Mickenson Clune had two hits and three runs scored. "It was good to get some confidence at the plate," said G-MU coach Dana Zietz. "The kids are realizing that if you put the ball in play, you have a chance."
