Benefit to be held Saturday to assist family affected by fire

NORWICH – Community members have rallied together to organize a benefit to help out a Town of Norwich family whose home was destroyed last month.

A benefit for the Wilchynski family is set for 1-5 p.m. this Saturday at Taylor’s Country House, 297 State Highway 320, in the town of Norwich.

In late April, the Wilchynski family home caught fire and firefighters were successful in isolating fire damage to the kitchen and rear of the home. However, due to water and heavy smoke damage, Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo said in a previous interview, “the home will more than likely be a total loss.”

As a result, a group of local community members have organized a benefit for the family to assist with the effort.

Cassie Clipston, an organizer, said there will be a Chinese auction and a live auction. Various local businesses have donated items for the auctions.

“We will have tons of food,” Clipston said, “including hotdogs, lasagna, tossed salad, pasta salad, scalloped potatoes and more.”
