Commerce Chenango Diamond member NBT aligned with the chamber to present to the first annual Soiree in the Park, which brought more than 100 business owners along with representatives from all facets of industry to downtown Norwich where a members dinner was provided.

The awards ceremony portion of the event dolled out two prestigious awards. John Payne, a Bainbridge native who owns several businesses including Paynes Cranes, Bob's Diner and L.D. Dexheimer was presented with the Sam Golden “Entrepreneur of the Year” award.
“The 'Sammy' recognizes the achievements of someone who best exemplifies the ideals of entrepreneurship by starting and successfully managing one or more businesses in a way that demonstrates notable entrepreneurial characteristics and achievements,” said Commerce Chenango President and CEO Steve Craig.
A long-time member of the chamber, Payne has been providing the Northeast with mobile crane service, under the name Payne’s Cranes since 1970.
“A lot of my employees have been with me a very long time, some 25 or 30 years,” said Payne, and I've been very fortunate to have to he support of my community, including some folks at NBT behind me.”
Another notable award recipient was Monte Westcott of Westcott Electric for 2015's “Business of the Year” award. Wescott received the award in recognition of achievement in excellence as a Chenango County business and for the consistent generosity in the community and accomplishments resulting in years of business growth and success. Westcott Electric has been owned and operated in Norwich by Westcott, Master Electrician, since it was established in 1996.
Following the awards, members of the community were treated to the sounds of free music in the park with special guests, The Honey Island Swamp Band.
“The event was a great success, and we are making plans to make this 'a taste of Chenango' event that will be held as a yearly offering,” said Craig. “Likewise we will continue to utilize this gem of a resource to do so,” he said of the East Park venue.
“Soiree in the Park would not be possible without the continued support of our sponsors, NBT bank, our Diamond Sponsor, and Silver sponsors - Preferred Mutual Insurance Company and Chobani,” said a release.
