MORRIS – As one of the few pet crematories in the state, Faithful Friends is a local and comfortable option for the final stage of your pet’s life. Located on NYS Highway 23 in Morris, Faithful Friends Pet Crematory offers a unique way to say goodbye to your loyal companions.
Faithful Friends was opened in May of this year and is owned and operated by Nanette “Nan” Johnston and her husband William. The husband and wife duo saw a need for a local and easier way to say goodbye to the pets of the community and decided to open Faithful Friends. With over 19 years experience at both operating a funeral home and a crematory, the Johnston’s have both the expertise and know how to ensure a professional and compassionate way to say goodbye.
When caring for a previous pet Nan Johnston commented that she was astounded that her animal was sent all the way to Pennsylvania to be cremated. She saw a need for a more local and personal way to care for her loved ones. As a retired Nurse and having experience working in non-profit organizations, growing up on a farm, and working in a funeral home, “everything fell into place,” Johnston said about opening Faithful Friends. “It was really just my love of animals that made me want to do this.”
Johnston says that their local option offers a much easier and local alternative than sending the animal hours away. Faithful Friends will take the animal from the vet and cremate it as soon as they can; instead of sending your animal off to a different state. Faithful friends will allow the local option, remarks Johnston.
Open for pets small and large, Faithful Friends is prepared to offer the most comfort and compassion for both the pet and the owner. Offering both private and communal cremation, the three individual chambers will be able to hold a pet up to 175 pounds. These chambers are specially made to ensure that the owner the pet receives their pet and only their pet.
They also ensure the integrity of the animal by following the process all the way through. “We have a couple of staff but we’re right in there,” Johnston said. Johnston went on to say that they also assign a stainless steel tag with a number to the pet to ensure that the same animal makes it all the way through the process. Johnston also said that this helps make a much more personal experience for the owner.
Johnston went on to say that they offer a “quiet room” where the owner can take the time to say one last goodbye to their loved one. Faithful Friends also offers a viewing window so the owner can watch their companion move on to the final step of the cremation, if they so choose. Johnston says that they do all of this so they can make a more personal experience for the owner. Johnston goes on to say that this is one of the main goals of the facility.
Faithful friends extends the option for a more personal choice of after death containers. If the owner chooses the private cremation option they can choose from many different options such as urns and grave markers. Faithful Friends will also provide a cremation certificate will the animals ashes. Keeping in line with one of the main reasons why they started the facility, Johnston remarked that when searching for materials and manufacturers for these items they always try to keep local.
