6OTS to host Oxford Academy Art Show, continue membership drive
OXFORD – This Friday, June 5 from 4–6 p.m., 6 On the Square is proud to host the Annual Oxford Academy Student Art Show's Opening Reception. All are welcome at this event open to students, families, and the general public.
Primary School Teacher Katie Thomas, Charity Gipp from the Middle School, and High School Joni Eaton have been working with students to create an eclectic body of artwork in assorted media. For example, Ms. Gipp’s middle school students have created aboriginal prints, tempera leaf paintings, tessellations, town and room perspective drawing, and mandalas. Those who attend can look forward to a rich, school-wide portfolio of form, shape, color, and ideas all created by Oxford’s children and youth.
“The chance for students to display art in the community is not only very exciting for students,” said Thomas. “It inspires pride in families, and their joy and passion inspire us as teachers. The show is something I always look forward to.”
Students’ artwork will displayed throughout 6OTS until June 20, and can be seen by the public during 6OTS performances and one-hour before scheduled performances.
6 On The Square would also like to remind the community that it is continuing to march forward with its annual membership drive through June 20.
Member sponsorship allows the organization to pay artists their guaranteed rate when crowd attendance dips and ticket revenue isn't enough. Members keep the lights on and the telephone ringing. For this years drive, organizers added the incentive of a pair of tickets to any upcoming fall 2015 shows at the venue. A membership brochure is available 6OTS or online at 6onthesquare.org. Likewise, convenient online donations can be made online as well.
On Thursday, June 11 the public is invited to attend the 6 On The Square, Inc. Annual Meeting, consisting of a “year in review” and elections for new Board of Directors members and Officers beginning at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
