SHERBURNE – Vernal ponds, or ephemeral pools, are temporary bodies of water that provide habitat for a wide variety of organisms. Many species rely on the fleeting nature of these ponds for a safe place to lay eggs and to have their young develop.

On June 27, join local herpetologist Bob Benton to learn more about the specialized plants and animals associated with vernal ponds. Discover the importance of these increasingly rare ecosystems and what can be done to preserve them. The program begins at 10 a.m. in the Visitor Center.
