Five area softball players receive all-state recognition

SYRACUSE – Five Chenango County softball players received all-state recognition in a recent release from the New York State Sports Writers Association.
Afton's Cassidy Phillips and Tanya Hatton were each selected as first team Class D honorees; Norwich juniors Shannon Moore and Kassidy Seary earned fourth-team all-state recognition in Class B, while Greene senior Laura Durdon was a fifth-team pick in Class C.
While Afton has churned out all-state players on nearly a yearly basis, Norwich's Moore and Seary are the first documented all-state picks for the school in at least 15 years. "I knew after they received all-conference recognition (in STAC) that they had a chance of making the all-state team," said Norwich varsity softball coach Scott Moore. "When the all-state list came out, we were pretty excited to see their names."
Moore batted .556 this season, third in STAC, with a two homers, 15 RBI, and a team-high 22 runs scored. Seary batted .362 with a team-high four homers and 25 RBI.
