Chenango Bird Club calls all outdoor enthusiasts
CHENANGO COUNTY – As the summer “flies” by, the Chenango Bird Club will be meeting again for the third walk in its summer evening birdwatching series on Wednesday July 8. This walk will be along the Chenango Canal north of Hamilton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
The Chenango Bird Club is calling for all those who are interested to meet at the Woodman Rd canal crossing at 6:00 p.m., or car pool from Rogers Center’s visitor parking lot at 5:30 p.m., as the remnants of the Chenango Canal traverse great bird habitat between Woodman Pond and Leland Pond. As the birds are busy courting, nesting, feeding their young, and defending their territory, they are sure to be out and vocal.
Leading the walk is Fred Von Mechow, former Rogers Program Director and Chenango Bird Club member. As a long time birder and veteran of the area, Von Mechow will point out birds’ visual field marks and songs. All are encouraged to come as there are binoculars to share and refreshments after the walk.
The Chenango Bird Club presents programs each month, with the exceptions of January, February, and March. Nature lovers of all levels and interests are welcome to come to each program as well, you don’t need to be an experienced birder to come out and enjoy the programs. Programs take place at the Rogers Environmental Education Center Bird Exhibit Cabin, next to the visitor parking lot, free of charge.
The Chenango Bird Club is already gearing up for their next evening walk, which takes place August 12. For more information on the Bird Club please contact Club President, Charlene LaFever at 607-334-9112.
