COLUMBUS – A 49-year-old man sits in the Chenango County Correctional Facility after being arrested on rape charges Sunday.

New York State Police arrested Donald J. Mercer of Columbus for numerous crimes, sexual in nature.

The arrest occurred following an investigation that determined – according to police – that Mercer had sexual contact with a young female, less than 17 years of age.
