Bainbridge Streakers softball on a roll
Both the Bainbridge Streakers U18 and U15 teams saw action this week as both teams cruised to wins against tough opponents.
Traveling to Oxford on Wednesday July, 29 to take on the Blackhawks, the U15 streakers team took an early lead and didn’t let up in a 17-2 victory. Scoring eight runs in the first three innings it was the Streakers offense that got it done for the team. During the first inning, A two-run double by Kori Thornton started the day and put the Streakers up 2-0 in the first. Piling on five more runs in the second inning, Bainbridge gained a sizable lead. Almost every Streakers batter got a hit during the 17 run rout, notably Bailey Hart who reached the bases four times off of two hits and two walks. Hart ended the day with three runs and two RBIs.
Oxford got their first run in the third inning and another in the fifth, but the Streakers’ pitching seemed to much for them that day. Alli Miller allowed only two hits, one earned run, walked none and struck out seven during her three innings of work. Oxford’s pitching ended the day allowing seven hitters to combine for 11 hits, 11 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
The Streakers made the win all but official when they scored five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. The game ended after the bottom of the fifth inning after the Blackhawks scored one more run making the final 17-2 in favor of Bainbridge. Both U15 teams see action again in the league tournament this Saturday, August 1, at Neahwa Park in Oneonta.
Streakers U18 ground out two wins in a tough double header Tuesday, July, 28, when they took on Davenport and Unatego winning 11-0 and 2-1, respectively. In the first of the two games, Bainbridge was too much for Davenport to handle and easily cruised to victory after pouring on the runs early. An RBI single by Jillian Cannistra, a two-run home run by Megan Palmatier, a wild pitch, and a walk by Riley Smith in the first inning gave the Streakers their first five runs. In the second, they pilled on two more runs to make their lead 7-0.
Reilly Smith got the win on the mound as she allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out seven during her three innings pitched. Alli Miller added to the effort by striking out five and allowing no hits during the final two innings of the game.
In a hard fought win, the Streakers scored two to push past Unatego. Kori Thornton’s pitching was what gave Bainbridge the edge in the game as she struck out 17 batters in all seven innings to get the win. Thornton allowed three hits and one earned run during the seven inning game.
It wasn’t until the fourth inning when the Streakers scored to break the scoreless tie. Plating one in the fourth on a wild pitch, Bainbridge was up 1-0 until the fifth when Unatego managed to score one run in the fifth inning on an error. In the bottom of the inning the Streakers scored what would be the winning run when Thornton scored one on an RBI single, effectively securing the victory. The Streakers will be back in action when they play in the league championship tournament this Saturday, August, 1 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Neahwa Park in Oneonta
