One killed, one seriously injured in Otego train vs. golf cart accident

OTEGO – A Sunday afternoon collision involving a train and a golf cart left one victim dead and another in serious condition, authorities said Sunday evening.

The fatal accident occurred east of the village on Sunday afternoon, according to officials from the Otsego County Sheriff's Office. A report of the accident came in to the 911 call center shortly before 3 p.m.

According to authorities, at least one occupant, a Delaware County man in his late 50s, was killed as a result of the collision. Presently the other victim – the man’s wife – remains in serious, yet stable condition and was transported to Albany Medical Center via LifeNet helicopter, according to scanner reports.

Otego Fire Chief Scott Secor indicated that the couple had been trying to drive the golf cart across the railroad tracks when a southbound Canadian Pacific Railway train struck the cart.
