Hey, I've got a Cruise-In car
NORWICH – This Saturday from 3-5 p.m., the Chenango County Fair will be hosting its 6th annual cruise-in event with free admission.
The cruise-in is run by Dale Mudge, Fair Director and President of the Chenango Speedway, and sponsored by Chenango Welding Supply. “Chenango Welding Supply has put a lot of their time into these events. We all have, but it really is a big donation on behalf of them,” said Mudge.
There will be 16 different award plaques (trophies) given out to the best of show for each category.
“The categories for the event will include: best hot-rod, best antique, best muscle car, best truck, best rat-rod, best bike and an award category for any microd that shows up. There will also be a best of show in the special category for any vehicle that doesn’t fit into one of the other categories,” said Mike Chase, owner The Trophy Guy in downtown Norwich.
All awards that will be given out were purchased by Chenango Welding Supply from The Trophy Guy.
Any vehicle that wishes to participate in the event and that may fall into one of the categories is instructed to simply drive to gate two of the fairgrounds, across from Matthews Auto, and tell the staff there that you have a car for the event.
“We park them on the black top there. I think last year we had close to 25 or 30 participants for the event, but we're always looking for more people and cars to come in,” said Mudge.
There will be free prizes given away at the event as well as music played by deejay Frank Goodrich. The event will announced by Mike Chase.
“It is a good family fun event. Everyone usually brings their lawn chairs and just relaxes and enjoys their time and the music. We like to go around and talk to people – everyone really seems to enjoy themselves,” said Mudge.
The Chenango Speedway will also be featuring its annual microd race with free admission to the grandstands on Friday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m. All are invited.
“They all come flocking in when we get closer to the event time. We'd like to invite everyone down for the evening for a great time,” said Mudge.
