St. Bartholomew’s procession
The parishioners of St. Bartholomew's Church in Norwich are seen celebrating the feast of St. Bartholomew. Every year on August 24th, the parishioners in Norwich have a procession carrying a statue of the patron saint in his honor. This tradition was brought to Norwich in the early 1900's, and is practiced in the islands of Lipari every year on the same date. St. Bartholomew was known as the protector of the Aeolian Island, the largest of the islands of Lipari. In prior years, this procession was done the same weekend of the St. Bartholomew Italian Festival. However, this year the parishioners have decided to hold the events separately due to scheduling complications, the Italian Festival will be at a later date in September.
