OXFORD- Oxford Academy took on the Sidney warriors in what would be a competitive match at Blue Stone Golf Course. The final score ended in Sidney's favor, but a close match proved to be a moral victory for the Blackhawks as they only won one match last season.
"It was a close match," said Oxford Coach Mark Muller. "We played pretty well against a great team. Last season the Sidney team was undefeated in match play; so keeping pace with them felt pretty good."
Oxford's Kevin Davis tied with two Sidney golfers, Steve Smith and Trever Dutton, for the low score of the match, shooting a 42. After all the scores were tallied the match ended with Sidney on top 233 to Oxford's 241.
The Blackhawks are still a young team with a lot to prove. Muller believes that as the season goes on, they will continue to improve and stay competitive.
Individual scores: (O): Kevin Davis: 42. Jacob Marrone; 50. Jason Davis, 43. Daren Law; 62. Austin Crawford; 52. Zack Ford; 54. (S): Trent Stillman; 46. Kyle Smith; 51. Trever Dutton; 42. Steve Smith; 42. Dawson Crawford; 52.
Team Totals: Oxford; 0-1, 241, L. Sidney; 1-0, 233, W.

NORWICH
NORWICH -The Purple Tornado took home the victory in their first match of the season, beating Chenango Valley 215 to 223.
"It was a good all around match for the kids," said Coach David Branham. "It was our first league match and I can already see a lot of potential for the kids."
Norwich's Ryan Johnson scored the low round of the match, shooting a 33 on Canasawacta Country Club's course. Johnson, a junior, beat out the next best golfer by six strokes.
Norwich has a young squad this year with a lot of talent. Coach Branham says that they should be one of the teams to beat in the section this year and for years to come.
A solid victory for the Purple Tornado as they gear up for their next match on Thursday, August, 27, when Johnson City comes to Norwich in what should be a competitive match.
