Fazio scores five as Norwich girls down Windsor 8-0

NORWICH - After a tough loss to Chenango Forks earlier in the week, the Norwich girls’ varsity soccer team took on Windsor at home and proved that their first loss wouldn’t define them as a team. Norwich’s Michaela Fazio scored five of the Purple Tornado’s eight goals in their first shut out of the season.

“It was a fantastic game for the girls,” said Norwich Coach Adam Sprague. “Obviously Michaela had a great day, but just about everybody else contributed on the field.”

Norwich started their scoring early as Fazio was fouled in the box about ten minutes into the first half and netted her awarded penalty kick. It wasn’t much longer until Fazio had her second of the game increasing the Tornado’s lead to two. A few minutes later Hunter Hagenbuch would add to Norwich’s total and net her goal for the game after an assist by Kate Dowdall. The first 40 minutes ended with Norwich on top 3-0. “I think we totally dictated the pace really well,” Sprague said. “This was a huge confidence booster and really showed the girls what we’re capable of.”
