The Historical Society is also trying something new this year by combining the event with the annual Chenango Canal Boat Derby. The derby races dozens of model canal boats down a small portion of the Chenango River, from the East Main Street bridge to the finish line at the edge of the fairgrounds.

Tickets for the boat derby can be purchased at the Historical Society on Rexford Street in Norwich for $10 for a single, or three for $25. This year’s first place winner will receive a $500 cash reward. Other prizes include gift certificates, services and other item donations from nearly 60 businesses and individual supporters from throughout the county. The boat race starts at noon.

Proceeds raised during the events will directly support the Historical Society and their mission to educate through their use of a variety of exhibits, projects and various activities.
