New York Pizzeria Tournament

NEW BERLIN - In the New York Pizzeria Tournament this weekend hosted by Unadilla Valley the Storm girls came away as the champions. In the championship game UV played against Bainbridge-Guilford and won 2-0.
In the first half of the game the Storm's Sierra Badger and Shelby Meade both scored early in an offensive win for UV. Two goals were all that was needed in a shut out for the UV women who would finish with 16 shots and two saves on the day. "Overall we played great this weekend," said Unadilla Valley Coach Diane Hayes. "I couldn't be more proud of this team. We played hard and came away with a great victory."
The UV girls are back at it again today when they travel to face Unatego.

Greene Tournament

GREENE - In a tournament hosted by the Greene boys varsity soccer team, Greene would go on to win their own tournament after beating Chenango Forks in the finals in double overtime.

In the first round of action Chenango Forks would play Sherburne-Earlville and win handily 5-0.
In the first half of the game Chenango Forks would go on to score three goals. Over the course of the game Coulter Wiley scored two while Brad Wiley, Patrick Sowerka, and Dan Lavrinovich all scored one. Forks would register much more offense than S-E, out shooting the Marauders 14-1.
Chenango Forks then moved on to the championship game to face the inner of Greene and Afton in the next game of the day, while S-E would play the loser in the consolation game.

In the second first round game Greene would play Afton and win by a score of 4-0. Luke Day would lead the Trojans in their first game, registering three goals and one assist. Goals would also be scored by Spencer Klumpp and assists would be made by Jake Cook and Ben Kinney.

For the consolation game Sherburne-Earlville would play Afton and go on to win 4-0.
S-E played a much better game this time around and kept their offense up all game, registering 13 shots on the day to Afton's 12. S-E's defense also kept a shot happy Afton defense at bay as well as the two goal keepers earned a combined 12 saves.
Tyler Rodruigez would score two goals for the Marauders in their win, capturing third place in the tournament.

In the sixth annual tournament Greene would meet Chenango Forks in the finals on Saturday, September, 19, after two days of play. The Trojans would take the tournament in a game decided by double overtime.
The first 80 minutes of the game went back and forth as the two teams played a very even match. They traded shots and saves until the time on the clock expired. As the tournament could not be decided without a winner, the game would go into overtime, not once but twice.
In the second overtime with 7:57 left on the clock Spencer Klumpp crossed a ball to Kevin Halsteter who volleyed a ball over the Chenango Forks goal keeper and in for the game winning score. After their 1-0 victory Greene was given the title of champions for the weekend.

SHERBURNE - On Friday, September, 18, the S-E girls' soccer team hosted Adirondack and won in spectacular fashion, 7-0.
The game started with a 2-0 first half by S-E. For the Marauders Taylor Coughlin finished the day with three goals and one assist. Other players of note were Morgan Simpson, who had two goals, and Lexi Elderkin, who had one goal and two assists.
Sherburne-Earlville wouldn't let up in the second half and would go on to score five more goals. The Marauder girls, now 4-3 on the season, will play again tomorrow, September, 22, when they host Canastota.

OTSELIC - On Friday, September, 19, the Otselic Valley boys' soccer team hosted Cincinnatus in a match where the visitors would ultimately win 5-0.
In the first half of the game Cincinnatus would go on to score four goals on their way to a shut out. Caleb Eaton would score two goals for his team in their victory.
In the second half Cincinnatus would only score one goal and complete their 5-0 win. Otselic Valley would only register two shots on a day where they could not generate very much offense, while Cincinnatus would have 22 on the day.
Otselic Valley plays again today when they host McGraw.

NORWICH - On Saturday, September, 19, the Norwich girls' varsity soccer team hosted Seaton Catholic and would ultimately lose 3-1.
After a 2-0 half by Seaton in which Norwich seemed could generate little offense, Norwich would come out in the second half and look much more competitive. About midway through the half Norwich's Cora Manwarren would find a way through the Seaton defense and fire a shot by the goal keeper for the Torndao's only score of the game. "We went into this game very defensively," said Norwich coach Adam Sprague. "The girls played a great all around game but we unfortunately couldn't come away with the win."
Defensively Norwich played a solid game, with goal keeper Kassidy Seary stopping 16 Seaton Catholic shots.
Norwich will play again tomorrow Tuesday, September, 22, when they travel to Owego.

NORWICH - In a home meet on Friday, September, 18, the Norwich varsity girls tennis team took on the Sidney Warriors and won 6-1.
After their win Norwich continues to stay one win ahead of Chenango Forks in the STAC East. Caroline Stewart and Sam Gage remain undefeated in singles play, only giving up only 4 total games between the two. Norwich's also remains undefeated in doubles play, giving up only 5 games. Norwich hosts Seton Catholic today where the two unbeaten teams will battle it out.

Oxford

OXFORD - In a match Friday, September, 18, the Oxford varsity girls’ volleyball team lost to Delhi in straight sets.
The first set was the most competitive of the three, with Delhi only beating out the Blackhawks 25-19. Lauren Cobb and Leah Karn both contributed for Oxford’s production throughout the day. Cobb earned two aces and two digs while Karn had three kills and two digs.
In the last two sets Delhi’s offense came fast and hard and won 25-11 and 25-13.
Oxford has now dropped to 0-3 on the season and will play again tomorrow Tuesday, September, 22.
