Norwich boys soccer downed by Chenango Forks

NORWICH - On a rainy Wednesday, September 30, the Norwich boys' varsity soccer team hosted a tough Chenango Forks team, losing 4-0.
In the first half Chenango Forks dominated offensively, scoring two goals and registering 13 shots. The second half was much different; although Forks would score two more goals, the Norwich defense would hold the Blue Devils to only three shots. On offense Norwich would earn eight shots all game with multiple real chances to score but couldn't quite get the ball in the goal. "I'm really proud of the boys," said Norwich Coach Scottie Decker. "We're improving tremendously from where we were at the beginning of the season and I couldn't be happier with the turn around that we've had."
Norwich will play again tomorrow, Friday, October 2 when they host rival Oneonta.

NEW BERLIN - In a game hosted by the Unadilla Valley Storm girls' varsity soccer team took on and beat the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats 2-1.
For Unadilla Valley it was Sierra Badger who scored both goals. Badger would take both goals on assists, the first from Jessica Smith and the second from Julia Oglesby.
Bainbridge-Guilford's lone goal would come from a Dina Cordes shot assisted by Abbi Miller. Cordes would receive the ball and fire a shot that would sneak past the UV defense and in for the goal.
Unadilla Valley plays again Friday, October 2 when they host Sidney, while B-G plays Monday, October 5, when they host Greene.

SHERBURNE - Hosting Mount Markahm Wednesday, September 30, the Sherburne-Earlville girls’ varsity soccer team lost 2-5.
In the first half S-E scored first from a Lexi Elderkin goal, putting the Marauder women up 1-0 going into the locker room.
As the second half started Mount Markham came out looking strong. The home team would end up scoring all five of their goals in this half. Mount Markham’s Sarah Mondore would score four of the team’s five goals in their win against S-E. The final goal for the Marauders was scored by Nicole Gramstad, giving the game its final score of 5-2.

GREENE - On Wednesday, September 30, the Greene girls’ varsity soccer team would play Walton in an overtime thriller that the Trojans would win 2-1.
To start off the first half Walton would score early off of a shot by Olivia Harby. Harby would take the ball downfield almost immediately to start the game and buried a quick shot in the Greene goal. The rest of the first half would be scoreless and the game would be 1-0 Walton going into the locker room.
In the second half Greene’s Brynn Marker hit a shot with just over 30 minutes to go in the game. Marker’s goal tied up the game and with no other goals in the half, the game would go into overtime.
Overtime would be much of the same for Greene as Grace Retz, assisted by Darien Meagly, scored the game winner within the first ten minutes of overtime.
Greene has a quick turnaround and will play at Oxford tomorrow, Friday, October 2.

OTSELIC - Hosting Madison Wednesday, September 30, the Otselic Valley boys soccer team would fall 5-0.
The first half of the game saw Madison dominate in all aspects of the game, scoring four goals and keeping OV to the bare minimum. The first goal was scored by Gabe Linden. Linden would beat two Otselic Valley defenders on a run and score off of a Dalton Coon pass. Linden would score again just a few minutes later, this time by himself. Two more goals were scored in the first half to give the halftime score of 4-0 Madison.
In the second half OV defended the ball much better, but could not find their way into the net. Madison’s Tyler Hummer scored the lone goal fo the half, taking a bad clear from the OV defense and returning the ball to the goal. The score was now 5-0 Madison, the game’s final.

CHENANGO VALLEY - The Norwich varsity golf team traveled to Chenango Valley on Wednesday, September 30, to take on the Warriors. Norwich would ultimately win the match 213-218.
For the Purple Tornado the team was again led by the duo of Ryan Johnson and Brennon Maynard. Johnson shots a match best 36, while Maynard was just behind with a 38.
Chenango Valley’s Devon Buckland shot a team best 40 for the day, just one better than team mate Dom Frankavilla who finished with a 41.
Norwich, now 7-5, will play again Monday, Ocotber 5, when they travel to Chenango Forks.

Sherburne-Earlville
POLAND, Ny - Last night, September 30, the Sherburne-Earlville boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Poland to compete in one of their best meets yet.
Competing against the host team Poland, Old Forge, and Dolgeville the S-E boys team would finish the day beating out both Old Forge and Dolgeville in head to head competition.
Rounding out the day for the boys Kenny Alrich took the top spot for S-E, finishing the 5K race in 21:03 and placing 9 out of 30 runners. Just behind Alrich was Caleb Larcher who finished 15 and ran a 23:06.
The girls team would finish their day on a high note, beating out all three other teams. For the girls Miranda Wright would post the top time for S-E, placing 11 and running a 27:55. "It was nice to come away with wins for both teams," said S-E coach Anne Geary. "We ran really well on a tough course, I'm happy with our performance."
Both teams will compete again next Wednesday, October, 7, when they travel to Remsen.

GREENE - In a four game match yesterday, September 30, Oxford traveled to Greene to take on the Trojans.
In four sets Oxford would win the match and take home the W. In the first game Greene would win their one and only game, 25-20. Greene would win behind Emily Montelione and Heaven Parrish's multiple aces and kills.
The next three sets would all belong to Oxford, winning 25-15, 25-12, and 25-13. It took the Blackhawks the first game to finally begin to click on the court and once they did, they won three straight in dominating fashion.
Oxford will play again next Wednesday, October 7, when the travel to Unadilla Valley, while Greene plays tomorrow, October 2, at Hancock.

BAINBRIDGE - In a home match against Unadilla Valley yesterday, September 30, the Bainbridge-Guilford girls' varsity volleyball team beat their opponent in three straight games.
In the first game B-G won 25-15. Almost everybody on the court for Bainbridge-Guilford contributed in one way or another. Most notably for the night Erica Selfridge earned 30 assists for her team. In the next game UV would test the home team, but would ultimately lose 25-22. The final game of the night saw B-G dominate the court and win 25-8, closing the door on the match.
Bainbridge-Guilford plays again tomorrow, Friday, October 2, while UV plays again today at Unatego.
