Norwich woman attends American Legion National Convention

BALTIMORE, MD – Lora A. Rowe of Norwich and member of the Sherburne American Legion Auxiliary Unit #876 was one of nearly 2,000 delegates, alternates, and distinguished guests from across the country who attended the 95th American Legion Auxiliary National Convention Aug. 28-Sept. 3 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD.
Rowe is eligible for membership in the American Legion Auxiliary through her father, Anthony J. Annesi, who was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
Currently, Rowe is the Sixth District President for the State of New York. The Sixth District is comprised of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.
While attending the national convention, Rowe participated in a variety of activities throughout the week, including National Executive Committee meetings, divisional caucuses, the nomination of state and national officers, and recognition of the year’s achievements. “What an honor it was to represent New York State at the National Convention,” said Rowe. “It was such an overwhelming experience to see how much the American Legion Auxiliary does for our communities and for our veterans across the country”.
Rowe comes from a family of legion members. Her husband, Thomas Rowe, is a current member of the Norwich Sons of the American Legion, Post #189. Her parents, Anthony (Tony) and Ruth Annesi were both members for over 50 years each in Sherburne, and her sisters Patricia Carapella and Paula Annesi are both current members of Sherburne Unit #876.
American Legion Auxiliary members have dedicated themselves for nearly a century to meeting the needs of our nation’s veterans, military and their families both here and abroad. They volunteer millions of hours yearly, with a value of more than $3 billion. As part of the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization, Auxiliary volunteers across the country also step up to honor veterans and military through annual scholarships and with ALA Girls State programs, teaching high school juniors to be leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism.
