Oxford Legion Auxiliary to host annual Harvest Benefit Dinner

OXFORD – The Oxford American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) of Fort Hill Post #376 have been busy getting things ready for this year’s benefit Harvest Dinner.
The roast turkey dinner – with loads of trimmings and dessert pies – will be on Friday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., with take-outs available from 4 to 5 p.m only.
Community members young and old are invited to have a delicious hearty, home cooked meal and support this good cause, the Sally Finch Book and Education Fund.
Invitation flyers are going home with Oxford Primary and Middle School students. Prices listed for the Harvest feast are just $8 for adults; $7 for seniors; children, aged 6 to 12, are $6; and under age 5 are free, take-outs will cost $8.50.
The menu for the evening is roasted turkey breast, turkey gravy, stuffing, jellied cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, scalloped corn, string beans, and assorted quick breads with butter. To drink, there will be hot coffee, tea or milk. Dessert, if you have room, will be your choice of home-made pies, with whipped cream on top.
The proceeds from the ALA Harvest Dinner are for a memorial fund named after Sarah "Sally" Finch, a once proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Sally, who passed away in 2003, helped sponsor volunteer programs on the national and local levels of the ALA. Under her direction, fourteen years ago, Sally started this fundraiser to promote literacy for Oxford community youth. Her daughters, Sharon Carpenter, Donna Clark and Connie Rowlison, members of the ALA, carry on their mother’s legacy. The Finch Book and Education Fund provides revenue for books for the Oxford Academy Primary School students. To date, the Oxford Legion Auxiliary has donated well over $5,000.
The recognizable logo for the memorial book fund, developed by Woollybear Web, is intended for all ages to immediately associate the graphic finch bird perched upon a stack of books with the fund.
The historic Fort Hill Post #376 is located at 17 S. Washington Avenue. For inquiries, contact Teri Webb-van Almen, at 843-4026; or call the American Legion at 843-8166. For more info on the ALA, visit: http://oxford-ala.chenango.org/
