Ithaca rolls out body cameras for its police department
ITHACA (AP) - Police in the upstate New York city of Ithaca have added body cameras to their uniforms.
Chief John Barber announced that all officers have been trained on the cameras and started wearing them Monday afternoon. He says officers must activate the cameras when engaged in “law enforcement operations.”
Officers are required to upload the footage captured by the cameras onto a cloud-based data system at the end of each shift. Officials say the officers can review the footage, but can’t manipulate it.
