Chenango County Historical Society to unveil Preferred Mutual history exhibit

NEW BERLIN – On November 20, the Chenango County Historical Society will open a new exhibit featuring the history of Preferred Mutual Insurance Company. The exhibit will be a permanent display at the museum located on 45 Rexford Street in Norwich.

Founded in 1896, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company has been part of the Chenango County community for nearly 120 years. The Company has maintained many of its original artifacts despite a historic fire, multiple renovations, and years of use. And for the first time in the Company's history, these items will be available for public viewing.

"Our history is deeply rooted in Chenango County," said Christopher Taft, President and Chief Executive Officer at Preferred Mutual. "This is where it all began for Preferred. This is where Frank E. Holmes first opened his doors for business; this is where our operations are centralized; and this is where our employees come to work every day. We're proud of our history in and contribution to Chenango County and excited to share our story with the community."
