NORWICH - Hosting Proctor high school, the Norwich girls varsity basketball team got another win on Thursday, December 17. The Purple Tornado would win 51-44.
Coming out of the gates Norwich seemed a little slow. The Norwich girls only scored three points in the opening eight minutes to Proctor’s 11 and fell into a hole that they needed to dig themselves out of. In the second quarter they did this on the shoulders of Kassidy Seary and Meghan Komendarek. Both girls five points in Norwich’s 13 point quarter.
The second half is where Norwich began to pick up some momentum. After starting the half tied at 16 each, Norwich went on to score another 13 in the third and held Proctor to 11 to increase their lead to two points going into the final minutes of the game. The Purple Tornado would hold on and stave off a Proctor comeback for the win.

HOLLAND PATENT - The Sherburne-Earlville girls’ varsity basketball team earned another win last night, Thursday, December 17, when they traveled to Holland Patent.
S-E started off with a big first quarter scoring 18 points and holding the home team to only nine. The Marauders rode to thier win on the back of Lily Berg. Berg had six of her 28 points in the first quarter and didn’t slow down.
The S-E girls kept up their high energy and pace all the way through the second quarter, scoring another 18 with a 10 point contribution from Berg. Holland Patent couldn’t be kept down for long as they earned 17 points in the second quarter, their game high.
S-E’s momentum carried them all the way through to the third quarter as they scored another 16 to increase their lead to 13 points. The Marauders finally slowed down in the fourth quarter and were held to 12 and kept Holland Patent at by long enough to earn the victory 64-54.

NEW BERLIN - Hosting Delhi on Thursday, December 17, the Unadilla Valley boys’ varsity basketball team fell 54-43.
From the start of the game Delhi’s tight defense contested many of UV’s shots and made it difficult to score. The first quarter ended with Delhi up 14-11 and the momentum. The story was much of the same in the second quarter for UV, as Delhi’s defense just made it too difficult to score and kept them at bay.
Now with a small lead, Delhi began to score a little more, going up 24-19 to end the first half. Delhi had a big third quarter to increase their lead even more as UV struggled to keep up. The Storm’s Ryan Postma lead his team in their loss, scoring 14 of his team’s 43 points.
After the final whistle blew in the tight fourth quarter, Delhi had earned their victory 54-43.

BAINBRIDGE - Winning big, the BGAH wrestling team beat Sidney at home on Thursday, December 17 64-10.
The Match started at 170 pounds and with a forfeit, BGAH’s Bradley Wilson was given a forfeit from Sidney, who would give up three more in a row. The first match was at 99 pounds where BGAH’s Brody Oleskak defeated Sidney’s Zach Harrington 15-3 to give BGAH the momentum.
The home team wouldn’t lose a match until the 132 pound weight class as Sidney’s Reed Scott pinned Kalieb DeShaw. Sidney would win the next match at 138, but that would be their last victory of the night.
At 145 Ben Bivar pinned Sidney’s Julia Obeada in 18 seconds to kick off a streak of three straight pins for BGAH to end the match.

Starting the match off at 99 pounds, Walton-Delhi’s Chandler Merwin would defeat Greene’s Jordan Taft 6-2. The first match would be a catalyst for Walton-Delhi’s victory, as they rattled off four straight victories and were given three forfeits. Greene’s first win came at the 152 pound weight class with a Nate Banks pin over Walton-Delhi’s Josh Johnson.
Greene wouldn’t win again until 195 when Braxton Howell pinned his opponent in the first period to give Greene six points and give the Trojan’s their final score of 12 team points.

SHERBURNE - The Sherburne-Earlville boys varsity bowling team hosted Cooperstown and continued their winning ways on Thursday, December 17. S-E shut out the visitors 5-0 on their way to another win.
The Marauder boys were led by Zach Miles. Miles out bowled the rest of the field by almost 40 points in a spectacular performance. Bowling a single game high 226 and 640 series, Miles was the high bowler for the night.
"The Varsity had another good night. Zach Miles was on again, he is really putting up some nice scores," said S-E coach Don Philhower. "The rest of the guys bowled well to pace us. These are tough matches as we knew by the middle of the second game that we would win so the guys really need to keep their focus on their games."
S-E is now 5-0 on the season.
