State legislators gather to discuss education
GREENE – On Saturday, December 5, Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES, along with their 16 component school districts’ superintendents and board members, hosted a legislative breakfast at the Silo Restaurant in Greene. The breakfast offered a time of sharing concerns and solutions with our region's state legislators. The event had a very positive and successful outcome.
In attendance were two New York State senators: Senator James Seward with the 51st District; and 52nd District Senator-elect Fred Akshar.
Also in attendance were Assemblyman Gary Finch with the 126th District; Paula Brown, representing Congressman Chris Gibson; and Joe Angelino, representing Assemblyman Clifford Crouch.
Doreen Rowe, assistant superintendent for Management Services, said, “Having local legislators’ consideration of important issues regarding our schools’ budgets will help inform actions that may be taken on our behalf. This collaboration will impact both our schools’ and children’s futures and is something we will continue to strive for.”
School officials and board members commented that the event offered an opportunity for face-to-face conversations with local legislators.
“We are sincerely thankful to all that attended, for taking the time out of their busy schedules to be a part of this event,” said Rowe. “We are very hopeful of continuing this dialogue with our local legislators throughout the year. We hope to continue working together for improved educational opportunities for our students, which as we all agreed, is of the utmost importance to us all.”
