Newark man held following 120 m.p.h.+ pursuit, crash
CHENANGO (Town)– Jan. 1, 2016, shortly before 10 p.m., New York State Police from Kirkwood arrested Trevon I. Clement, 24, of Newark, N.J. for the misdemeanor of unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and numerous other traffic violations during a pursuit.
The arrest occurred after troopers first observed Clement speeding at nearly 100 miles per hour and not stopping for police as he drove on Interstate Route 81 southbound near Exit 7 in the Town of Barker, approximately five miles southwest of the Chenango County line.
It is alleged by authorities that Clement continued to flee at speeds reaching 127 mph as he drove onto State Route 17 westbound, where he crashed into guide rails and stopped.
Clement was arraigned at the Town of Chenango Court and remanded to the Broome County jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 property bond. He is scheduled to reappear at a later date to answer to the charges.
