S-E Volleyball secures first win of the new year in fashion

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville, now sitting at a 2-8 record, secured their second win of the season in a revenge match over the Westmoreland Bulldogs, Monday evening on Jan. 4.

S-E suffered an opening day loss against Westmoreland, a loss that was avenged by sweeping the Bulldogs on their home court.

“The girls have been working hard,” said S-E Head Coach Ed Holmquist, “It was a good match tonight, the girls really played well tonight.”

Unlike their first meeting on opening day of the season, S-E dominated the series at home, only having to play three, as they soared past the Bulldogs in a sweep winning all three.

After winning the first set with reasonable ease, at 25-17, it was the second set of the night that proved to be the most challenging for the Marauders.

Although a set of Volleyball is only played to 25, with a win by two rule. The S-E ladies saw back and forth action, as they could not secure the win for the second set until a 31-29 score was reached.

S-E would go on in the third set of the match to win 25 to 21, completing the sweep on the night.

“These girls are really starting to come together, to gel a bit, and really start playing well,” said Holmquist.

Holmquist credited a big part of the win last night to the serving. An aspect he claimed they have been working on and will continue to work on to become more consistent.
