WINDSOR - The Norwich boys varsity basketball team picked up their 11th win of the season, 8th in conference, in a 82-43 romping of the Black Knights.
Norwich led 21-19 a quarter and a half into the matchup before finishing the half on a 17-1 run. At first, the Tornado struggled to score on Windsor’s 1-3-1 zone defense, but they were able to figure it out in the second quarter by attacking the basket and moving the ball more efficiently.
The Tornado bench came to play tonight with all players on the squad scoring in the contest. Norwich was led in scoring by Carlos Ithier, who had a total of 17 points.
“Carlos carried over his overtime performance against Utica Notre Dame in this game, and he didn’t miss a beat. His shot was in rhythm and he was very efficient,” said Norwich Head Coach Brian Collier. “And our bench came through for us tonight and gave us a good lift of energy that when we needed to get over our sluggish start.”
Collier went on to say that it was the skillful dribble-penetration of Ithier and Jordan Vinal into the top of the Windsor defense that would open things up for the rest of the offense. Once the offense was booming for the Tornado, they were able to set up their full-court press defense to force turnovers and transition points that would put the game away.
Norwich faces their toughest test of the season next as they travel to Westhill to take on the Warriors. Norwich has played Westhill twice in the last three years in postseason play, narrowly losing both match-ups; once in overtime by two, and once in regulation by one. They will attempt to avenge these losses this Friday night at Westhill Central High School.
