COOPERSTOWN - The Sherburne-Earlville girls varsity basketball team had no answer for Cooperstown’s star senior Liz Millea in a 66-36 loss.

Millea, who’s averaging 22.8 points per game this season, sunk seven threes in Tuesday night’s matchup. 24 of her 34 points came in the first half to help give the Hawkeyes a 23 point lead at the halftime break.

“Definitely not the way we wanted to play our last game before sectionals. We could not stop Millea tonight,” said Sherburne-Earlville Head Coach Karen Mulligan. “They’re quick, so we can’t play man [defense], but our zone didn’t do a good job of finding [Millea]. We went to a box-and-one defense which was a little better, but we gave them too many second chances.”

Lilly Berg was the main contributor for the Marauders, posting a double-double with a team high 17 points as well as 15 rebounds.

The meeting to determine Sherburne-Earlville’s seed and opponent for sectional play will be taking place on this morning, Feb. 10.

Team statistics: Sherburne-Earlville: Simpson 1 0-0-2, Wright 3 0-0-6, Furner 1 0-0-2, Irwin 2 0-2-5, Stanton 1 0-0-2, Franklin 1 0-0-2, Berg 6 5-7-17.
