UHS Chenango Senior Living residents support Polar Bear Jump
NORWICH – Feb. 20, 2016 marks the 21st Annual Polar Bear Jump at Goodyear Lake. This event and organization raises money by jumping into frigid water, as well at the Polar Bear Auction. All proceeds are used to support local children and families experiencing medical disabilities and organizations that provide them with community support. Doris Sherman, RN, a unit supervisor at UHS Chenango Memorial Senior Living, is very involved as a fund raiser and has been a jumper herself for the past eleven years. Last year the event had over three hundred jumpers and raised $127,000.
A group of crafty residents at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Senior Living Center worked as a group to support Nurse Doris and the Polar Bear Jump organization. The group gathered several times and put loving effort into making a fleece blanket and putting together a "Warm Up" themed basket. These items will be raffled off on January 31 at the Milford Central School. This energetic group of residents, who call themselves the “Tie One Ons,” have worked in the past making blankets for raffles, benefiting other nonprofit organizations. Sue Martin, Social Worker at the facility said, “these activities help to foster feelings of worth, meaning, and purpose through service to others and continued community involvement.” The group plans on completing other blankets and crafts in the near future.
