Oxford almost pulls off upset, comes up short

SIDNEY – Oxford suffered a heartbreaking loss on the road to The Sidney Warriors Tuesday evening, Feb. 16, knocking them out of playoff contention.

This marked the final game of Oxford’s four seniors in their high school career: Kevin DAVIs

Trenton Lyons, Nick Neer, and Damon Maricle.

Oxford would hold a steady lead over The Warriors for a majority of the game as the two ball clubs battled to advance to the quarterfinals of the Section IV Class C championships.

At the halftime mark Oxford held a slight lead by 3-points as the score was 16-13 over the home Warriors.

The third quarter saw similar action, as Oxford would go into the final quarter up slightly 25-21.

“We played great defense and led a majority of the game,” said Oxford head coach Timothy Davis.

Sidney played with a spark in the fourth quarter; as they would go on to outscore Oxford 20-8.

The Warriors would tie the game at 29-points a piece, with around four minutes to go before the buzzer, following a Steven Smith free throw.”
