WATKINS GLEN - From the very start, the Unadilla Valley girls varsity basketball team didn’t have much of a fighting chance against the Senecas in a 56-28 loss.

“We were totally blown off the court in the first half,” said Unadilla Valley Head Coach Brandi Backus, “They are hands down the best team we have seen all year.”

The Storm ladies were only able to put up eight points in the first half off of two made field goals and a few free throws. In the second half, they were able to get a bit more of a rhythm going but nothing compared to the hosting Senecas who hit their stride offensively in the third quarter scoring 19 points to take a 29 point lead entering the final quarter and put the game on ice.

Junior Amanda Pike was the leading scorer for Watkins Glen with a game high 16 points. No one for the Storm was able to score in the double digits, but Shelby Meade and Julia Oglesby together accounted for about half of Unadilla Valley’s point production.

The loss ends the Storm’s season at a record of 9-11. Looking ahead to next season, Unadilla Valley will lose seniors Sierra Badger, Hunter Lakin, Kayleigh Fairchild, Emily Anderson, and Michaela Williams.
