Blackhawk baseball looking for further success

OXFORD – The Oxford varsity baseball team found itself in the post-season during the 2015 season, however, a a post-season appearance is not enough.
The 2015 baseball season for the Blackhawks had them heading into sectional play with a 9-8 record to face off against Bainbridge-Guilford. Oxford went on to lose a close game that came down to extra to BG at 2-1, in the first round of sectionals.
This has helped fuel the Blackhawks 2016 campaign as they hope to return to post-season play and beyond.
“We hope to be competitive in every game. We would like to finish in the top half of the league and qualify for sectionals,” said Oxford baseball head coach Chris Palmer.
The boys open their season up soon when they travel to Florida to take on Caledonia-Mumford on March 26 at the Disney Sports Complex.
The 2016 season will be reliant on the stellar play of returning players such as senior, Kevin Davis, Nick Neer, as well as juniors Dylan Depew, and Jon Heggie.
While the Blackhawks will be welcoming newcomers such as Charlie White and Brad Beckwith both freshman as well as Phil Smith, now a junior.
Palmer explains that depth at pitching may be in question but hopes his team can step up to the plate on the offensive side of the ball in 2016 saying, “We were hoping that pitching would once again be a strength of our team. A possible injury to junior, Austin Crawford will limit some of our pitching strength. We would like to see major strides on the offensive side from our returning players.”
