Bobcats take home second with Norwich trailing tied for fourth

BAINBRIDGE-GUILFORD – Section IV Athletics recently held the2016 Section IV Open Badminton and Table Tennis Championship Tournament, and two Chenango County Schools with several individuals from both, made some notable showings.
The Championships were held at B-G high school on March 12, at 9 a.m., with the tournament consisting of ten different categories individuals could choose to participate in including; both girls and boys divisions of Boys Singles for Badminton or Table Tennis, Doubles for Badminton or Table Tennis, or a mixed Doubles division.
The home team, B-G walked away as a school with 19 total points on the day, claiming a second place finish, trailing the eventual winner Sidney by only five points at 24. Norwich, would be outscored as a team compared to Sidney and B-G would scrap together a respectable 9-points to hold the tie at fourth place with Waverly and Corning.
Sidney's Larry Hynes would be awarded the Championship Award; while B-G's Jody Hughes would earn the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament.
In the boys singles division of Table Tennis, Ben-Gabriel Gonzalez took home the gold; with fellow classmate, Austin Carr and Sean Jones, also of B-G, taking home a first place finish in the boys doubles for Badminton as well, earning Chenango County their only two first place finishes.
B-G would seem to dominate the Table Tennis world as they would see Rebecca Wlasiuk in the girls singles division for Table Tennis, Amaya Carlin and Drew DuMond in the girls doubles for Table Tennis, and the pair of Thomas Petrutoni and Emily Thomas in the mixed doubles for Table Tennis, all come up slightly short of gold, earning second place finishes.
Norwich saw three third place finishers battle to earn that spot with Nick Murphy in the boys singles for Badminton, Caroline Stewart in the girls singles for Table Tennis, and the group of Payton Seiler and Garrett Thornton in the mixed doubles for Table Tennis.
For the Bobcats the pair of Rebecca Reyes and Abigail Selfridge gave B-G their lone third place finish in the tournament in the girls doubles for Badminton.
Savannah Williams and Jazmin Rodriguez of Norwich in the girls doubles for Badminton were the eventual team that placed fourth being edged by Reyes and Selfridge of B-G.
Vanessa Salerno in the girls singles division of Badminton, and the team of Megan Burke and Kalie Binelli for the girls doubles for Table Tennis were the remaining two Norwich contestants who earned a placing award with fourth place finishes as well.
