GMU gets off to winning ways to open the season

GILBERTSVILLE – The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Softball team started off their season on the right foot last Wednesday, Mar. 29, as they defeated Downsville by a score line of 10-7.

In what was a tightly contested game throughout, the scores were knotted at five runs apiece in the fifth inning. That was before the GMU offense broke out for five more runs in the sixth inning. Although their opponents made a comeback, it was too little, too late, as the Raiders closed out the victory.

On the offense, Kelsey Ross finished with two hits in the game. Katie Schultes tripled in the sixth inning, followed by a homerun from Jocelyn Duncan that broke the game open. Best in the loss for Downsville was Kacie Banker, who proved a hassle to deal with. She lodged three hits along with adding three RBI’s to her team’s cause.
