Oxford Baseball picks up first win of season
OXFORD – The Oxford Academy baseball team picked up its first victory of the season last Friday, Apr. 1, securing a 5-3 win against Walton.
Although the Blackhawks only had six hits throughout the entirety of the game, they managed to muster up five runs. The combination of the seven, eight and nine hitters, Trent Lyons, Brad Beckwith and Charlie White, was key to the Blackhawks success. They accounted for five of the total six hits, as well as four RBI’s. Beckwith and White, both freshmen, also recorded their first varsity hits.
Starting pitcher Kevin Davis went six innings, giving up seven hits while striking out eight. “He threw really well. He had a shutout going through four innings,” said Oxford head coach Chris Palmer. “He pitched six innings and got the win.”
