Long honored on Vets’ Home ‘Giving Tree’

OXFORD – Elizabeth B. Long was recently honored posthumously in a ceremony at the NYS Veterans’ Home. Friends, family, and members of the Fort Hill American Legion Post 376 gathered on March 31, at the Vets’ Home for an auspicious occasion led by Post 376 Commander Darlene Ardron. The memorial honored the late Elizabeth, who was a 17 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 376, with a commemorative “Gold Leaf” engraved with her name, on the “Giving Tree.” Elizabeth led a life rich with experiences and her valuable contributions to the community were expressed.

Elizabeth, 89 of Oxford passed away on January 16, at the NYS Veterans Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, a veteran who was a Past Post 376 Commander. She is survived by her son Michael Long as well as her younger sister, Ruth J. Lorimer. Ruth attended this Leaf Ceremony as well as friends and caregivers Paul Romahn and Roger Barrows. June Smith, Steve and Sherry Behe, Jeanie Petersen, and Roberta Knoll also attended.
