Bainbridge-Guilford – The Bainbridge Guilford varsity baseball team has jumped out to a fast 2-0 start after first downing Unadilla Valley and most recently defeating Delhi at home, 3-0.
“It really wasn’t a bad night to play, it was about 50 degrees, the rain held off, so it worked out pretty good,” said first year varsity baseball coach Bob Conway.
Conway credited the team win to the outstanding pitching of number 25, Ouimet.
“My pitcher pitched extremely well, well he pitched a one hitter with just four walks,” said Conway.
Conway noted the much improved pitching from the previous game against UV, where Ouimet was pulled in the second inning as well.
The offense for either team seemed to be a little shaky as Delhi only managed one hit off of Ouimet, coming from Delhi's number 15, Cairar.
“Well to be honest we ended up with four hits, so we didn’t hit the ball real well; we had a couple walks and a couple hit by pitches. Really it came down to Ouimet, he pitched really well and he struck out 14 batters,” said Conway.
On the offensive side of the ball Dylan Mondore, number 24, claimed the offensive show as he went 2-3 at bat and had 2 runs batted in.
BG baseball will be home this evening weather permitting, against Harpursville at 4:30 p.m. It should be noted that due to weather delays, BG has games scheduled the rest of the week as well.
“It's hard to tell yet, but we should be able to tell where the team stands by the end of the week,” said Conway. “As far as pitching goes, I’ve really got three solid starters so I'll pitch Jones tomorrow. I’ve got 17 kids so I’ve got some flexibility to move some people around. They’re excited to play, they hate being inside.
