Norwich Tennis destroys JC before suffering first loss to rival Oneonta

NORWICH – Norwich Tennis under the tutelage of coach John Stewart was riding high off their crushing win over Johnson City on Friday, April 15, when they swept JC 7-0.
The first mens singles Jamison Luke decisively pick apart JC's Thomas Corey, with sets of 6-1, and 6-4.
Carlos Ithier went to work on Fawad Ahmad when he would win in commanding fashion at 6-1, and 6-0; followed by Cameron Edwards who managed a complete shutout of his opponent on the court at 6-0 for both sets.
The doubles action saw duos of Austin Benenati and Zayn Harper; Matt Giglio and Josia Shaver; and Mike Carson and Dan Zieno all win their matches in just two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, and 6-2 and 6-2 respectively.
It was Joel Fazio who saw a challenge and eventually answered with a win when he was faced with the only three set match of the evening. Fazio dropped the first set at 3-6, before answering with a 6-4 win to send it into the third tie breaking set. Fazio would defeat Josef Verdesoto at 10-6 in an impressive showing for the young athlete.
“Norwich is 3-0 setting up a showdown with Oneonta on Saturday for first place in the division. Only 3-setter of the match came at fourth singles. Down one set Joel Fazio fought off Josef Verdesoto to give Norwich a 7-0 sweep,” said coach John Stewart following the win over JC.
