Blackhawks hold on for the win over Bobcats

OXFORD – The Oxford baseball team tacked on another win over visiting Bainbridge-Guilford to move to 4-2 on the season after an odd game that saw much of the game go scoreless. Oxford eventually held on for the win late to beat the Bobcats 6-3.

“The stats are a little odd, what happened is we had all six runs in that second inning. BG committed two errors and walked four, we had our only two hits in that inning as well,” said Oxford head coach Chris Palmer.

Palmer went on to explain that the BG pitcher had four walks in a row that came at a good time for Oxford as they already had two guys on base

“They walked Dylan Depew to score a run and Jon Heggie to score another run, then they walked Trent Lyons to score a run. Kevin Davis had our last hit of the game next so that was an RBI and that was it,” said Palmer.

After the crazy second inning the score was in favor of Oxford 6-0, who failed to manage another score the remainder of the game instead relying on the pitching of Kevin Davis to close out the game.

“Through the first five innings we only had one error with Kevin pitching very well, 10 strikes to one walk, then we committed five errors in the last two innings, made it closer than it needed to be,” said Palmer.
