Greene softball drops first two games of the season
GREENE – Coming off a tightly contested game where the lady Trojans earned a late 3-2 win over Unatego. Greene saw some stiff competition come from Bainbridge-Guilford when they traveled there to ultimately lose their first game of the season 8-7.
Coach Rick Condon took full responsibility for the loss to BG saying, “Alex Thompson was gassed she was giving it 110 percent and I left her in, I should have put in a fresh arm. That loss is on me, that mistake was all me.”
Thompsons pitching at the mound for Greene saw them only behind one point heading into the final inning of play in the seventh. However, this inning proved deadly when BG strung together a four run inning to come from behind and upset the previously undefeated Trojans.
BG pitcher Riley Smith threw nine strikeouts at the mound as she led the Bobcats to the 8-7 win.
While Maddie Brink gave her all at the plate going 4-4 with a run and four RBI's.
The very next day, Greene traveled to Harpursville, to suffer yet another loss at 4-5.
“I think they exhausted themselves after last nights game, physically and mentally,” said Condon. “the girls played down to their competition. Harpursville knew they had to play hard, and my girls gave everything they had against BG it just mentally exhausted them.”
Once again for Greene, they would lead late in the game at 4-3 heading into the seventh inning before failing to score and surrendering two runs to their opponents, sealing the loss.
Condon noted that he has elected to give the girls Friday and Saturday off before expecting a productive practice on this coming Monday.
“There is no other team I would rather take into battle with me, because they push the whole game all the way through no matter what,” said Condon.
This game saw pitcher Alex Thompson toss out four strikeouts, while at the plate six different gils recorded hits in the game.
Up next for Greene is Deposit next Tuesday April 26, at 4:30 p.m. at the Greene home field.
“To every beginning there is an end and we havent reached that end yet, or goal. At the start of the season was to make sectionals and that is still in our sights. Two steps forward and no steps back,” said Condon.
