Norwich and B-G at the Square Deal Invite

JOHNSON CITY – This past Saturday, April 30, Johnson City held the Square Deal Invite for boys Track and Field. Two Chenango County teams were present for this invite which included 16 different teams.
The Norwich boys would leave the meet placing seventh overall with 29.50-points, earning one first place individual finish, with various other medalists. On the BG side for boys they would finish in fourteenth place with 2-points, seeing one athlete medal.
The Tornado girls would finish in ninth place overall with 24-points as a team, seeing one individual win first, with others medaling. The BG girls managed a thirteenth place finish with 7-points, seeing one of their athletes medal, earning a second place finish,
Binghamton high school would ultimately claim the boys side as a team with a score of 132-points; while Corning claimed the girls side with 100-points scored.

Norwich

Norwich's first medalist on the day was Eric Conant, who ran a 12.19 in his 100 meter dash. This time earned Conant a fifth place finish in the meet, only .01 of a second behind Vestal's, Dylan Salisbury who ran a 12.18 second hundred for fourth place.
Ben Ericksen of Norwich would run a solid time of 4:39.99 in his 1600 meter run to claim the sixth place spot in the event, less than half a second behind Elmira's Kade Austin, who ran a 4:39.48 for fifth place.
The 4x400 meter relay team from Norwich would edge its way into placing in the invitational when they ran a 3:56.08. The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of David Berger, Eric Conant, Noah Bufalini, and Ben Ericksen would end up placing sixth overall in the event.

The mainstay seniors Thomas Reilly and David Bernstein for Norwich once again continued on with their success in the throwing events. Reilly and Bernstein both claimed the top two spots in the Shot Put when Reilly threw a 49'08.50", and Bernstein threw a 41'06.00" to go first and second respectively.
The Discus also saw both seniors place as well when Bernstein took third place with a throw of 130'03.00" and Reilly tied with Union Endicott's Cameron Patton with a throw of 120'01.00" to take fifth.
The girls for Norwich would only see four girls place in events, but each of these place finishes were impressive.
Emily Shattuck finished first in the Long Jump for Norwich when she beat her next best competition by more than a foot, jumping 16'00.50" on the day. Teammate Nicole Jeffrey managed to slide into a place finish, placing sixth with her jump of 14'03.00”.
Katelyn Shaver enjoyed a nice outing for the Tornado when she successfully placed in both the Shot Put and Discus events for Norwich. Shaver threw a 34'04.50" in Shot Put to claim her second place finish in the event.
While in the Discus Shaver notched out a fourth place finish with a throw of 105'08.00", followed by her fellow teammate Kara Evans who claimed the sixth place spot with her throw of 96'04.00".
Up next for Norwich, they will be heading to rival Oneonta later on today, May 3. This Friday, May 6., Norwich will be hosting the Annual REK Track Meet, of which many Chenango County Teams will be present. This Friday is also Norwich's senior night.

Bainbridge-Guilford

Bainbridge would see the highest place finish on either side, go to Lindsey Castle, who would end in a deadlock tie with Grace Ruland of Corning. Both Castle and Corning tied for second place in the Pole Vault when they cleared 8'. The eventual winner from Ithaca Sylvie Studier would clear the height of 9'.
The boys side for BG would also see one place finisher, ironically enough, also in the Pole Vault event. Aidan Nolan of Bainbridge-Guilford would ultimately clear the height of 9' to claim a fifth place finish for the Bobcats. Nolan would come up just a half a foot short to Binghamton's Jerome Wiggins for the fourth place spot. Wiggins jumped 9'6”.
Up next for Bainbridge-Guilford Track and Field, they will be sending athletes to the MAC Relays in Delhi later on today, Tuesday, May 3. On Friday, May 6., BG will be heading to Norwich for the Annual REK Track Meet Invitational.
