HANCOCK – It was a tough pill to swallow for the Bainbridge-Guilford varsity softball team last Wednesday, Apr. 27, as they surrendered a five run lead and lost by a single run to Hancock, 9-8.
The Bobcats started the better out of the two teams, and leapt out to a five-run lead after the top of the third inning before chaos ensued. In the fifth inning, two consecutive errors led to Hancock scoring three runs, and leaving B-G in a three run hole, down 8-5. They fought back; scoring three runs in the top of the sixth, but gave up a run in the bottom of the inning. The Bobcats had no more hits left in them, and suffered the rough loss.
Mikayla Kravestky pitched the complete game for Hancock, giving up 12 hits and six earned runs, but still grabbing the win. Best in the loss for the Bobcats were Alyssa Hovey, who went three for four on the day, driving in a run, and Megan Palmatier, who only pounced once at the plate, but drove in three runs for her side in the loss.
