UNADILLA – The Unadilla Valley men’s varsity baseball team fell to 0-9 on the season after losing to Delaware Academy last Tuesday, May 3, by a score line of 8-2.
A slow start defensively led to the Storm’s ninth loss of the season last Tuesday. Delhi got out to a quick four run lead in the first inning, courtesy of some good base running. UV clawed two runs back, but gave up three more in the top of the second inning, due to some poor errors in the field. After that, it was a closely contested game, but the Storm were in too deep of a hole to attempt a comeback, and eventually fell by six runs.
“We started out with some good bats but they went in the freezer or something,” said UV head coach Jason Miller. “The first inning we had two errors and we gave up four runs, but then we put up two so at that point I was like, ‘okay this is going to be a good game’, but then we just kind of fell off.”
Despite the loss, Miller was still pleased with his side’s performance. “It was a good game, my pitcher did a pretty good job and defensively we did a pretty good job, with the exception of those three errors. (It was the) Best game we played all season, and with the exception of those four runs, it is a different ball game.”
Best in the loss for the Storm was Andrew Jackson, who finished two for three at the plate, stealing two bases and scoring a run. “Andrew had a nice day, he had a couple good hits and he did score one of our runs,” said Miller.
Next up for the UV men in their quest for a win is a home game against Deposit later on today, May 5. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 – R H E
Delhi: 4 3 0 0 0 1 0 – 8 7 1
