Marauders edge Waterville in close game

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville baseball team saw a game go right down to the wire with Waterville this past Thursday, May 5, with SE earning the earning a run in the seventh to win 6-5.
“We played well tonight for a majority of the game. We just allowed Waterville to get back in the game in the seventh inning,” said Sherburne baseball head coach Jay Tackabury.
SE would jump out to an 5-1 lead over Waterville heading into the fourth inning, but Waterville showed resilience when they tacked on an additional two runs in the fourth draw the gap to just two runs at 5-3.
“I give Waterville a lot of credit for fighting until the end. I've said it all season, we need to play games to the very end and not allow teams to hang around,” said Tackabury.
Waterville would make the game even closer for The Marauders when they tied the game at 5-5 late in the seventh.
“Kyle Cole led off the bottom of the 7th for S-E with a walk and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dawson Lagoe. Ian Fleming hit a single to Left to score Cole as the winning run,” explained Tackabury. “We have to finish, and tonight Ian came thru with a big hit to win the game.”
SE (2-8-1) will be home next later on today, Monday, May 9., to take on Adirondack at 4:30 p.m.
