The first annual 'Touch-a-Truck' event held at the Chenango County Fairgrounds on May 14, was welcomed by the local community with many positive comments from parents, children and truck drivers alike. The event gathered over 30 different vehicles into one area for the children to get up close to and learn about. Touch-a-Truck was planned by the Pumpkin Shell Nursery school in Oxford, as well as the parents of the children. Pumpkin Shell Nursery would like to extend their gratitude to Burrell's Excavating for sponsoring the event, Blueox Energy for sponsoring Animal Adventure, and Rentals To Go for the yellow construction hats provided to the children. While also extending a thank you to all the area organizations, departments, and drivers of the vehicles for their support and for volunteering their time.
Voted the Most Favorite Truck by the children was the new Oxford Ladder Truck. The tire roll competition winners at the event were announced: ages 6-8 Robbie Solemen with 32'4”, ages 9-12 Shelby Williams with 29', ages 18-22 Brad Larsen with 39'6”, and age 65 plus Bobbie Burrell with 34'4”.
