Crimson Knights move on to semi-finals
AFTON – The Afton ladies varsity softball team cruised to a relatively comfortable 6-1 victory in the quarter finals of the Section IV, Class D playoffs last Tuesday, May 24.
After hammering Morris in the first round of the playoffs 26-0, the third-seeded Crimson Knights faced off against eighth-seeded Richfield Springs, who won their first round matchup against Gilbertsville-Mount Upton.
Afton got off to a blistering start, and quickly jumped out to a three run lead. They tacked on a run in the third and two more in the fourth inning to increase their lead to a sizable 6-0. Richfield Springs clawed back a run in the fifth inning, but they couldn't mount a comeback and fell to the defeat.
Best in the win for Afton was Junior Amanda Greenwood, who did it all for the Crimson Knights. She went an incredible three for three at the plate on the day, with a double and two triples, driving in a run, and also pitched a complete game, yielding just three hits, while striking out 14 opposing batters.
