County School Board Association recognizes G-MU faculty member
GREENE – Each Year the Chenango County School Boards Association (CCSBA) recognizes an outstanding school board member from one of the school districts within Chenango County.
While length of service is not a determining factor of the nomination process, the purpose of the award is to recognize a board member who has done his or her best for their school and community by serving on the board of education.
On April 21, the CCSBA hosted their annual dinner at The Silo in Greene. The evening began with musical entertainment preformed by various Greene Central School vocalists. Following dinner a full program that included an overview of Oxford Academy & Central School's Entrepreneurship Initiative and Sidney Central School's STEM program that includes different pathways for a wider range of options.
These two schools either have programs currently or plan to have programs that students from other districts can utilize, opening the door to future conversations between boards about shared services.
For 2016, Jerry Theis was nominated by the Gilbertsville-Mount Upton board of education for his leadership and vision throughout the 20 years he has served within its district. Theis has served as President for the past decade. Two retired superintendents, Doug Exley & Glenn Hamilton spoke to Jerry's ability to make tough decisions without losing site of the reason board members serve, for the students to have opportunities.
