Greene suffers another loss at the hands of Norwich Pony League

GREENE – Norwich Pony League traveled south on Route 12 to have a rematch game against Greene on June 20.
“We didn’t take them lightly, they’re a respectable team. I respect that team and they saw my ace, and they still played well. Defensively (Greene) knocked the ball down, we just put the ball in play and took advantage of their five errors,” said Norwich Pony League head coach Nick McCullough.
McCullough's team suffered through an error ridden game themselves, coughing up four errors of their own, and leaving an astounding six runners on base. Regardless of the mistakes, Norwich would improve their record and stay undefeated on the season with a 7-3 win over Greene.
“That is unacceptable. But a win is a win and we'll take it,” said McCullough.
Norwich would jump out to a large enough lead over Greene in just the first two innings to claim the win, despite slipping later on in the game.
“I told them, you cant take a team lightly. We have to step out early and show the other team how the game is going to go. They all took it to heart and we got five runs in the first two innings,” said McCullough.
Up 5-0 after the first two innings, it was the errors on Norwich's part that allowed Greene to sneak back into the game. Greene posted a two run inning in the fourth followed by a one run inning in the fifth, however, this late push wasn’t enough to overcome Norwich.
“They (Greene) really had to fight for those three runs, even though they were unearned,” said McCullough.
On the mound for Norwich was Mike Trevisani, who struck out nine Greene batters en route to allowing only one hit in his seven innings of pitching.
“This game was one of the worst I have seen him (Trevisani) pitch. He still pitched seven innings, struck out nine, and gave up only one hit. That shows you how great he is. He didn’t walk anybody, he had a high pitch count is all,” said McCullough of his pitcher.
Greene elected to give three guys a go at pitching– Shoemaker, Hyzer, and Conklin– to which Shoemaker would get the loss on the night, while striking out five and walking five in his three and a third innings pitched. Hyzer would record two more strikeouts for Greene.
Norwich batters: Tyler Hagen 2-3 with a run, Eli Rodriguez 1-2 with two runs, Mike Trevisani 2-3 with two runs, JT Vinal 2-4 with three RBI's, Drew Walsh 1-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Bret Bates 2-2 with a run. Hagen would secure three stolen bases, while Walsh would secure four on the day.
Greene batters: Shoemaker 0-3 with a run, Scott 1-3 with an RBI and a run, Conklin 0-3 with an RBI, Haskell 0-2 with a run, Thomas 0-2 with an RBI, and Hoeppner 0-2 with a run.
Next up for Norwich, they will be hosting Unadilla Valley, a team they previously defeated 14-1, at home on June 23, at 6 p.m.
“We're gonna throw a lot of guys at them (UV),” said McCullough.
