NORWICH – The sentencing of John M. Guzy of Bainbridge – the man convicted of second-degree murder in the 'road rage’ killing of Derek D. Prindle in a parking lot in Bainbridge – is set for today at the Chenango County courthouse.
Guzy faces a minimum sentence of 30 years in state prison, with the maximum exposure of a potential life sentence.
It’s alleged that on Oct. 27, 2014, at approximately 1:25 p.m. in the parking lot of a local business in the Town of Bainbridge, Guzy killed Derek D. Prindle by shooting him in the chest with a .25 caliber Beretta Jetfire semi-automatic handgun, causing a lacerated aorta.
The indictment also alleged that Guzy caused serious physical injury to Derek S. Prindle, the victim’s father, by shooting him in his abdomen with the same gun, causing splenic, colon, and renal injuries for which he was required to undergo surgery.
