Brick and Mortar Report: Southside carwash sees upgrades inside and out

NORWICH – A much needed renovation to a long time eyesore is underway in the town of Norwich near the City line bringing with it a future reduction in white-knuckle traffic and congestion along the stretch of highway south of town.
Marco Knuth of Norwich recently became one of the new owners of the Speedy Clean Car Wash of State Highway 12 south of Norwich near the South Plaza shopping center. Currently, the facility is seeing state-of-the-art upgrades including a complete overhaul of the location’s appearance, features and access points for its customers.
As a partner with the group the owns the adjacent South Plaza, Knuth has already taken the liberty to develop a common sense access to Plaza from the car wash property that was all but overlooked when the property was initially developed back in 1995. Future plans to develop access between neighboring Dunkin Donuts to the north and the Speedway gas station to the south are in the works, according to the owner.
Knuth believes that the enhanced access to the upgraded car wash would work twofold, bringing with it not only an uptick in Plaza and Speedy Clean traffic–which has been defunct for a number of years–but also the surrounding businesses.
“We want to make it as appealing as possible, it was a pretty big eyesore on your way into town and we're in the process of changing all that,” said Knuth.
Knuth, a plumber by trade, indicated that the new facility will offer two fully automated bays and three modern credit card-op self service bays along with card-op vacuums relocated to the south side of the property.
Knuth said that by creating alternate entrances and exits to the facility, customers will have access to the traffic light at the South Plaza entrance.
“Attempting to take a left turn out of here between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. is pretty much impossible,” Said Knuth, “ But ease of access and modern aesthetics are just the beginning.”
The owner is in the process of installing completely new radiant in-ground heating system both inside and out where costumers walk will make the car wash a safer place for its future customers when the temperatures dip come winter. Knuth anticipates a grand opening by years’ end.
